GRAZING GRANITE

Up here, the deer unafraid.

We freeze together

to see who melts away first.

  1. Yesterday morning, to my surprise, the twin fawns were still asleep under the oaks and wild persimmons at 9:00 a.m. The doe was about 2o feet away, browsing on everything green she could reach, and now she’s adding acorns to her diet. It’s been such a treat to see them most days this summer. They rise when I pass by, but seem otherwise unconcerned.
