Paregian Ranch Cows and Calves

So hampered by the wet ground, we were only able to see a few cows and calves on the Paregien Ranch. The cows are producing lots of milk, there’s plenty of grass and the calves are really growing. Right now they would be handful to brand, and who knows when we’ll be able to get up the mountain to get that job done.

Those calves look big and healthy. Do you use horses to brand, or a calf chute? If horses they better be big and in shape!!!!

    • Yes, when hills and corrals dry out, we will rope and brand these calves, that is if the weather allows it. Recent weather projections call for a continuation of rain through the first half of February, so… the calves are just getting bigger. We may not brand and cut our bull calves if the rain continues, but sell them as bulls rather than set them back or risk losing one or more when the weather warms up. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  2. Wow, look at that green! Makes my heart sing, as does the snow accumulation in the mountains there.

  3. When an outfit has plenty of grass and water, calves are growing, the boss can get away for a town day. Hope you are enjoying your day away.
