WATER TROUGH

A water trough
leveled for a float
with a puddle
at the bottom

resembles our aquifer
thousands of feet below
the tax write-offs
of corporate farming,

as the ground collapses
to take the water’s place
deposited before man
walked this earth,

before we were so many
thirsty inhabitants
pumping for more
until the trough is empty.

Spoke with Dwight at CACHE last Saturday and we talked about you and our hopes to get your poetry on the wall, as it were. A poem like WATER TROUGH with the accompanying photo would be a perfect example of your work. If a reading or talk of your poetry is a bit much for you, we could still have a show with selected poems and photos on the wall and your books for sale.
