at work, a dance
on uneven landscapes.

    • The man in the photo is Clarence Holdbrooks at 76, cowboy and horse trainer his entire life. Among many accomplishments, he worked for my father and grandfather here on Dry Creek, foreman of the ranch at 16. He helps us often.

  3. Another great haiku! I’ve never thought of horse riding as a dance. =)

    • Very much a dance, T, to find that spot of grace at every speed. Some, like Clarence, seem to find it immediately, and others like me, take awhile to get used to, and learn to trust, one another.

  4. Oh, it’s so nice to see Clarence still sitting so beautifully on a horse. I hope I can still ride so well when I’m his age. Heck, I just hope I can ride at all. And what a gorgeous horse he’s sitting on!

  5. Thanks for letting me know the breeding, John. I’m always curious about such things. Clarence would never know this, but he is one of my heroes, and knowing he is still doing what he loves gives me a lot of hope.
