Mothers to the weaned calves that went to town Wednesday were ready to head home when we arrived early yesterday morning. A small front passing through Yosemite left us overcast with a cool upcanyon breeze.
The cows know the routine and really only need us to open and close the gates.
A beautiful morning to be horseback despite the dust. No hoots, no hollers, easy business as the cows chugged up the hill, going home.
Compadres.

Great shots John, especially the one of the compadres. I may be going to live on a dairy farm…I can’t wait. 🙂

Thanks John, I am about to bring my travels to a close for now and come in to land on a great farm in a beautiful part of England, but I am absolutely sure that there will be many more adventures. I get to drive a tractor on Monday and that is very exciting. Hope all is good for you in Texas? 🙂

Thanks, Angeline. It is beautiful, even in the middle of a drought.

Great shots of real work. But do you really consider that work? Has the drought made it necessary to thin the herd? I certainly hope you are doing well in spite of the odds.

Not every job is this pleasant, but because our cows have a home they want to get back to, yesterday was pretty easy on everyone. Check out Tuesday’s post Last Bunch 2014 for more on the calves of these cows and the impacts of the drought on our cowherd. Thanks for the good wishes. 🙂

I can just imagine how nice that cool front felt this time of year. I remember those summers up there.
