Robbin & I spent the better part of Sunday with the cows and calves on the Paregien Ranch.

  1. Hey Robbin – nice pics!! I photographed some baby calves yesterday in Gilroy……got to see one born too! Curious as to what lens you shot the closeups with, and what digital camera are you using these days? I am about to make the plunge….just shot a 40th wedding anniversary party of some rancher friends with a borrowed digital camera and I am hooked!! (Finally – I know I am slow to join the party…..)

  2. Thanks Totsie! Heather, Robbin’s Canon Powershot Pro 1 finally gave up the ghost. It took beautiful photographs for her, despite the 1/2 second delay of the shutter. She is getting more comfortable with her Canon Rebel T1i that also has the capacity for video with the benefit of Canon lenses, of which we have several. The lens used above was an 18-135 zoom 1:3.5 – 5.6 w/ Image Stabilizer. The ability to adjust exposure, contrast, etc. with digital images on the computer is a Godsend, improving or reclaiming photographs that might have otherwise been lost or rejected. Case in point, the photo I took of Robbin and Clarence Holdbrooks into the sun, the ‘Time to Talk’ post on September 7th, was nearly all black. But cows and calves can be so photogenic and so telling, somewhat reflective of their owners and handlers, or so I think.
