   Looks so much like our Hawaiian Nene…I know they’re related. And we’ve got a huge flock of them across the way mingling in the ginger patch. Aloha!

   Isn’t it interesting to think that these birds may fly thousands of miles a year, over land and sea, while the cattle grazing beside them may spend their whole lives within the range of a few miles? Do they communicate at all across species? There are so many different ways of being in the world. Both of these species are killed by humans, one for sport and one directly for food. But how different their lives are before they end.

   Yes, Yes, and Yes. Even we can read one another’s body language, feel intent from a distance. I would have liked a bigger lens and more time to get the cows in focus, instead of on ‘program’, but I think the photo might dispel notions of evil cows as spoilers of wildlife habitat.
