HAWAIAN SHIRTS

They can hide
sizeable investments
in self-indulgences—
over years—over
a lifetime.

Silk floral prints
at any price
men can wear anywhere—
but only fit
as not obvious
on the Islands
separated
from the rest of the world.

What matters afloat
swirls in the air
around them—sustenance
from the elements—
all the ghosts and gods
forever trapped,
leak-out of the greenery
begging to dance
again with fire.

It looks like another world over there. What a beautiful spot for a wedding.

(Of course, the ranch w/b nice, too!)

  2. Indeed it is another world! Unfortunately one has to pass through yet another to get there. The tempo on Kauai is delightfully subdued, swirling with gusts, clouds and occasional rain as they, too, enter their rainy season this time of year. The skin turns silky-soft within 24hrs in the humidity, but the trade winds take any stickiness away in gusts. My daughter has a pretty tight and supportive community on the island where she has lived for 15 years or more. Already, being there seems a dream, though it’s nice to be home and back to our cattle work.
