APOLOGIES TO JONATHON SWIFT

Pale ribbon of dawn—
war fears rise
as somewhere east of here
helter-skelter backroom maneuvers
make knights of pawns.

One more war to end all wars
hangs in the heavens—
one more barren planet
to explore
when your work is done.

Perhaps a better day awaits,
a better way to stifle the narcissistic
egos bent on power, born of greed.
But it must trickle to truly flourish
from the bare ground up.

Blessed are the meek
for they shall inherit the earth.

– Matthew 5.5

  1. unfortunately the meek never invest the energy to take the power from those who claim it by birthright. I’m as guilty as the rest

    • I think “meek” connotes “inner humility and patience”, differing from poor (which I think I’ll edit) as I was not intending their meanings to be the same. Then somewhere in my younger mind, I thought the earth they would inherit would be a grave.

Really sick and tired of these threats and bluffs, this style of one-up-man-ship business and politics. Around here, a good deal is a good deal for all parties concerned, where everyone is satisfied.

my father taught me that the lowest form of life was a man or woman you could not trust. Judging by that standard our country is in for a rough ride

Well said, John! When will humankind ever learn we don’t have to act like the lowest, most brutal classes of animal life, in order to be truly successful and happy!
