    • Thank you, Peter. I believe he is indeed lost in thought. Enlarged, you can see his chin resting on his neck — damn sure not in the fishing mode.

    • I approached our irrigation pond from a different direction Saturday. This heron is almost always there, but generally leaves at about 150 yards, keeping his distance, never really trusting me despite all the times we see one another without threat. Something must have happened about four or five years ago, all the herons were much tamer then.
