BLACK TAILED KITE

IMG_1703 - Version 2

Fence of my youth still standing
where birds of prey rest,
repair for soaring.

  1. I love the space and the Wyoming-ness of this. 🙂

  2. That picture reminds me of landscape around a small town in southern British Columbia called Grand Forks.

I had to look up the word “repair” because I thought “Is John playing with the old meaning ‘to return’ along with fixing up?” Lots of engaging images in such a short poem.

    • Thanks, Tina. I kept waiting to get a closer shot of the Kite hovering and settled with the fence when he landed, much happier with the results than what I was after. Just goes to show 🙂

  4. The words are as great as the photo, John. Love ‘repair’ in contrast to ‘youth’ and ‘standing’ to ‘rest.’

    • Thank you. I tried the photograph in black and white, but liked the color of the wild oats too much. And as shabby as the fence looks, it must be working with feed on one side and fairly bare on the other.
